1900 – 1999 · 19 documented scenes
The band where being ten years out is a real miss.
Everyone thinks they are good at the twentieth century, and almost nobody is good enough. The decade is usually easy — the year is not, and this is the band where the scoring curve is unforgiving because the evidence is overwhelming. Cars, hairstyles, aircraft, signage, cameras, uniforms: a single frame carries a dozen independent clocks and they all have to agree.
The library's twentieth-century scenes are the ones people recognise instantly and misdate anyway: a crowd at a wall, a launch pad, a stadium, a street on the day something changed. Recognition gets you the event. The points come from remembering when the event actually happened — and from noticing when the scene shows you the year before or the year after the one you were thinking of.

Years covered
Every round opens inside a 360° panorama of a real moment. Drag to turn, zoom in on anything that looks datable. There is no caption, no title and no year anywhere on screen.
Place your guess on the world map and set the year on the slider — arrow keys nudge a year at a time, the century arrows jump a hundred. Both halves are scored, so a perfect year with the wrong continent still loses points.
The result screen shows the true place and year, the distance you were out, and the detail in the scene that gives the date away. That explanation is the part that makes the next round easier.
Running boards and upright cabins are pre-war. Long, low, chrome-heavy bodies with tail fins are the late fifties. Boxy, downsized, bumper-heavy shapes are the seventies and eighties. One parked car in the corner of a scene will usually beat every other clue for speed and precision.
Biplanes, then all-metal monoplanes, then jets with swept wings, then wide-bodies. Rocketry is even tighter: the vehicle on a pad dates a launch scene to a specific programme and often a specific year, because each stack looked like that for only a handful of missions.
Typography dates a street: hand-painted serif to neon to backlit plastic to corporate sans. In a crowd, look at what people are holding — press cameras with flashbulbs, then compacts, then camcorders, then phones held up. The gadgets in the audience are a stricter clock than the building behind them.
Pin to the fixed points: 1914–18, 1929, 1939–45, 1961, 1963, 1969, 1989. If a scene feels close to one of those, ask whether it is before or after — the difference is usually visible in what the crowd is wearing or what is parked behind them.
Every one is a documented moment with a verified place and year. A run deals 5 of them in random order, so no two sessions are the same.
