5 periods · 5 rounds each

    History Games by Era

The full game mixes four and a half thousand years into one session, which is fine for a daily but hopeless for practice. These five runs deal from a single period instead: ancient, medieval, the age of exploration, the nineteenth century and the twentieth. Same rules — a 360° scene with no caption, a pin on the map, a year on the slider — with every round drawn from the era you picked.

Each page also carries the cues that actually date scenes from that period: what the stonework, the ships, the street lighting or the parked cars are telling you before you commit to a year.

    Questions about the era runs

    What is an era run?
A normal five-round game of HistoryGuesser dealt from one slice of history instead of the whole library. Every round is a 360° scene from a real moment inside that period, with no caption — you look around, drop a pin on the world map and choose a year. Free, no account, playable in a browser.
How is it different from the trivia rounds?
The trivia round for each era is timed multiple choice: it tests what you can recall. An era run is the panorama game: no options, a map and a year slider, and it tests what you can see. Most people use the trivia round to learn a period's order and the run to practise dating it.
What happens if an era has fewer than five scenes?
A run never refuses to start. Every scene inside the band is played first, then the closest history to it in date order, and the in-game header states exactly what the run contains — so padding is never presented as the era itself.
Do era runs count towards the leaderboard?
No. They are unlimited practice and can be replayed as many times as you like. The ranked board is the daily challenge, where everyone in the world plays the same five scenes on the same day. Signed-in players still earn XP from era runs and still move their character forward through history.
Which era should I start with?
The 20th century if you want to feel fast, the medieval band if you want the hardest dating problem on the site. If you have played a few games while signed in, your profile names the era you date worst — that is the one worth drilling.
