Who we are
HistoryGuesser ("we", "us") is an independently operated history and geography game. This page explains what data the site handles, why, and who processes it on our behalf. Questions and requests go to contact@historyguesser.app.
What we collect, and why
- Account data. If you sign in, your email address and the identifiers from your sign-in provider, so we can recognise your account across sessions.
- Gameplay data. Scores, rounds played, which scenes you have already seen, streaks, XP and level, daily-challenge results and leaderboard entries — used to run the game, avoid repeating scenes, and rank results.
- Content you create. Custom maps, suggested moments, star ratings and comments. Approved content is shown publicly within the game.
- Purchases and credits. Your credit balance, subscription status and a record of credit transactions, so we can deliver what was bought.
- Visit information. Where a visit came from (referrer and campaign tags in the link you followed) and basic technical data such as IP address and browser, which is inherent to serving a website and is used to understand traffic and keep the service working.
- Local browser storage. Guest progress, preferences and session state are kept in your browser so a run survives a reload. Clearing site data removes them.
We do not ask for your name, address, phone number or payment card details, and we do not sell personal data.
Services we use
- Lovable Cloud (Supabase). Hosts the database, authentication and stored images behind the game.
- Stripe. Processes payments for credits and Pro subscriptions. Card details are entered with Stripe and never reach our servers.
- Google AdSense. Serves the advertising that funds the free game, as described below.
- Google sign-in. Used when you choose to sign in with a Google account.
- TikTok. Used to publish approved game clips to a TikTok account an authorised operator has connected, as described below.
These providers process data on our instructions to deliver the service, and may process it outside your country.
Advertising and cookies
The site uses Google AdSense on its article and information pages only — gameplay, account and checkout screens do not load advertising. Google and its partners use cookies and similar technologies to serve and measure ads, and — where permitted and consented to — to personalise them based on your prior visits to this and other sites. Where consent is required, it is collected through Google's certified consent message; you can reopen it at any time with the control in the footer, and change your mind whenever you like.
You can opt out of personalised advertising in Google Ads Settings. How Google uses information from sites that use its services is described in Google's partner-sites notice and the Google Privacy Policy. Your browser settings also let you block or delete cookies, which may affect how the site works.
Pro subscribers do not see ads, and ads are not shown on sign-in, checkout or account-only screens.
TikTok publishing
We share short clips of in-game moments on social media. When an authorised operator of this site connects a TikTok account, TikTok gives us that account's identifiers and basic profile details — nickname, username, profile picture and the posting options the account allows — so the operator can see which account they are about to post to. We do not receive TikTok data about you as a player, and we never read anyone's TikTok content or followers.
Videos and captions are uploaded to that account only after an operator has reviewed the specific video and its settings and explicitly approved it; nothing is posted automatically. The connection can be revoked at any time in TikTok's own settings (Security and permissions → Manage app permissions), or by emailing contact@historyguesser.app, after which we can no longer post to the account.
Children
The game is suitable for classroom use, but accounts and purchases are intended for adults. We do not knowingly collect data from children where a parent's consent would be required; if you believe a child has created an account, email us and it will be removed.
How long we keep it
Account, gameplay and created content are kept while your account exists, so your progress and public contributions stay intact. Records tied to purchases are kept longer where needed for accounting and dispute handling. If you ask us to delete your account, we remove your account data and disassociate or delete your contributions, other than records we are required to keep. Data held by Google and Stripe is kept according to their own policies.
Your rights
Depending on where you live, you may have the right to access, correct, export or delete your data, to object to certain processing, and to withdraw consent for personalised advertising. Email contact@historyguesser.app and we will act on the request. You can also complain to your local data protection authority.

This policy is updated when the product changes; the date at the top shows the last revision. See also the terms of use and about.
