Which era am I standing in? An era guesser trains the read that comes before the exact year — antiquity, the medieval world, the early modern age, the industrial century, the modern day. Here you name the era by placing a year on the slider, and then say where on Earth the scene is.
Read the era markers: building methods, materials, dress, writing, what is powering things.
Slide to the year you believe it is — century arrows jump you across the deep past quickly.
Pin the place, then see the real answer with the event behind it.
Most people can place a scene within an era long before they can place it within a decade, and that is the useful skill to build. Stone laid without mortar, hand-forged iron, cut glass, cast iron, poured concrete, steel and neon — each material has a window, and the window is usually visible somewhere in the frame.
Once the era is settled, the finer clues take over: a hem length, a collar, a tram, a telegraph pole, a parked car. The scoring rewards that ladder — a guess a decade out still scores well, a guess an era out does not.
Beyond the mixed game, each era has its own five-round run, so you can spend a whole game inside antiquity, the medieval world or the twentieth century and learn what that period actually looked like in different corners of the world.
Every reveal names the event, the year and the place, with a short sourced note. New scenes arrive daily, so the eras keep filling out.
