How to read a Korean scene

South Korea compressed a century of building into forty years. A palace courtyard and a thirty-storey apartment block can sit two streets apart, and almost everything between them was built after 1960.

    Architecture

Dancheong-painted timber palace halls with tiled roofs are Joseon. Hanok courtyard houses with curved eaves survive in pockets. Repetitive high-rise apartment complexes with numbers painted on them are 1975 onwards.

    Landscape

Steep granite hills right up against the city, terraced rice in narrow valleys, and a coastline of small islands in the southwest.

    Period tells

Flattened rubble and refugee columns are 1950โ€“53. Cheonggyecheon covered by an elevated expressway is 1976โ€“2003; open water there is after 2005. Olympic construction dates Seoul scenes to 1986โ€“88.

    Build a Korean round yourself

You don't need a photograph or a map reference. Name a moment โ€” "Seokguram Grotto completed, Mount Toham, Gyeongju" โ€” and the builder fills in the year, drops the pin, writes the factoid and paints a 360ยฐ scene you can stand inside. Publish it and it joins this collection for everyone.

    1. Step 1

      Name the moment

One line is enough โ€” an event, a place, a year you half-remember. Or let the AI draft five moments around a theme.

    2. Step 2

      Auto-fill the history

The year, the exact coordinates and a one-sentence factoid come back filled in. Everything stays editable.

    3. Step 3

      Generate the scene

A 4K 360ยฐ panorama of that place in that year, ready to spin around inside the game.

๐Ÿ‡ฐ๐Ÿ‡ท Put your own scene on /play/south-korea

Credits cover the AI: 1 to auto-fill a moment, 3 to draft five at once, 25 for each 4K panorama. Your map stays yours โ€” you choose whether it's public, unlisted or private.
