Landscape
Red sand between towering isolated sandstone massifs is Wadi Rum. A flat white salt shore below barren brown hills is the Dead Sea. Rolling wheat and olive country with pine is the northern highlands around Ajloun.
Period tells
Hejaz Railway track and stations date from 1904โ1908 and were heavily attacked in 1917. Refugee-camp concrete around Amman marks 1948, 1967 and post-2011. Petra as a tourist site with staircases and signage is post-1985.
