Her arrest in Montgomery begins a 381-day bus boycott.
Rosa Parks was arrested in Montgomery, Alabama for refusing to give up her seat to a white passenger. She was no accidental protester: she was secretary of the local NAACP chapter and had trained in organised resistance. Her arrest set off a bus boycott that lasted 381 days and ended with the Supreme Court striking down bus segregation.
